Day 93: DIY Cam

The DIY cam I used one week ago. Shown here with the Phase One P20 digital back, voigtlander viewfinder and Olympus OM 28mm 2.8 lens. I guess it needs some explanation.

What is it?
Is it a DIY digtal Holga or a cheap DIY ALPA rip-off? I suppose the vignetting this configuration produces makes it more like the Holga than the ALPA :-) But I was inspired by the simple design of the ALPA. The Copal #1 shutter is modified to take lenses for the Canon EF mount.

Whats missing?
The cabling. I usually use a cable release, and the back needs a wake up cable as well as a connection to the X-synch contact of the shutter. It's a mess. The cables are a 2.5mm subminiphone splitter cable (thanks to flashzebra), to this I attach the x-sync cable from the copal#1 and a normal cable shutter release for the Digial rebel (thats also utilizes the 2.5 subminiphone). The cable shutter release for the D-rebel is used as a wake up cable for the digital back.

Problems?
Wignetting, there are some vignetting in the corners of the frame probably due to the opening in the copal #1 shutter that is not really wide enough.

Parts list (camera only, not including viewfinder, lens or back):
2 x Hasselblad magazine support (from billrogers.com)
Hasselblad magazine catch (from billrogers.com)
Copal #1 shutter
lens board for Coopal #1 shutter for Horseman camera (80x80mm)
4mm plywood
9mm plywood
paint
glue (JB weld)
1 special made aluminium part to fit the 40mmx0.75 thread of the copal #1 shutter front thread (for attaching the EF lens mount, SchmidtIversen made this one for me, expensive but it fits perfectly).
Adapter for EF lens on 4/3 camera (sawed of the 4/3 mount and glued it to the special made alu part)
Nuts, bolts and washers M4
Cold shoe for attaching the viewfinder

The building is not THAT complicated, but it does take some time to make all parts fit perfectly. There is some precision involved in making the attachment for the Hasselblad V back fit.

Bispelokket #2

Better make some pictures before it's gone.
